IMPINGEMENT

Impingement is when the shoulder bone structures impinge on the tendons, bursa, and other anatomy within the shoulder joint.

What Symptoms Can It Produce

  • Movements most often cause the most pain, especially any overhead movement.
  • If severe, it can even create weakness in the shoulder.
  • It will generally cause pain with movement, specifically overhead movement.
  • The pain will be near the shoulder joint itself, most commonly it occurs on the outside of the shoulder joint.

What to Do

1) Therapeutic Exercise to induce proper shoulder movement and increase spacing in the shoulder joint to reduce any compression and/or inflammation.
2) Therapies, ice, and diet to reduce inflammation.

3) Adjusting lower neck and upper back to ensure proper nerve flow and shoulder gliding.
4) Anti -inflammatory diet and supplements to ensure decreased levels of inflammation within the body.

AVOID

  • Excessive overhead movements
  • Sleeping on the side of the involved impingement
  • Performing tasks with an outstretched arm

EXERCISE

      1) Shoulder Depression
      2) Scapular Retraction
      3) Pendulum exercises with weight
